The Penn State quarterback will be Christian Hackenberg, ESPN’s top-rated passer of the 2013 class, who beat out junior college quarterback Tyler Ferguson. So your Penn State quarterback is the highly rated true freshman.
Bill O’Brien on the Penn State quarterback battle this week:
“You’ve got an 18 and a 19-year-old guy here. That’s part of it. They basically just got to Penn State. Christian got here a little over a month ago and Tyler has only been in since January. The team understands the direction we’re headed and that’s what’s important.”
BOB hasn’t publicly named the starter, but it’s leaked now, everyone knows. Mystery remains on the other side of this game.
For their opponent, the Syracuse Orange, it’s either Terrel Hunt or Drew Allen at QB. O’Brien on preparing for that situation:
“It’s one of the things that’s a little nerve-racking going into the first game. You really don’t know what to expect. You have to make sure that you cover all your bases as best you can, but you can’t stay in the office until 4:30 in the morning trying to block ghosts and scheme for things that you don’t really know exist.”
So we’ll see what the Cuse throw out there at the last second. But at least we know who the Penn State quarterback is.
