Purdue Boilermakers Head Coach Darrell Hazell was the second Head Coach to speak at the podium for Big Ten Media Days this week, and his remarks brimmed with optimism. They were the type of remarks that you would expect a head coach to make on dais, during a media session broadcast live on BTN.
Hazell, as well as the rest of the coaches, don’t really answer the media questions as much as they utilize the platform to get their program’s messages across. It’s the college football equivalent of a political stump speech, with reporter questions loosely serving as a tie-in to the talking points each coach wants to communicate.
We asked Darrell Hazell two tough questions during the ballroom session, and those were met with a substantial amount of spin within his responses. The spin level was befitting that of a politician, and as you might have heard in the news, we’re in the height of political campaign season right now, so perhaps Hazell’s answers fit right in!
Of course, given his dismal record in West Lafayette, what else can he say? He has to spin in order to try and boost morale within a very disgruntled base.
You can view the entire transcript of his session at this link.
Moving on to the breakout sessions at B1G Media Days, we have audio for you below from Hazell and the three Purdue football players (DL Jake Replogle, WR DeAngelo Yancey and LB Ja’Whaun Bentley) who attended the talking season kick off.
These are the so-called “1 on 1s” or individual podium sessions, not the ballroom session televised on Big Ten Network.
