Ana Navarro, conservative strategist and political commentator, slayed the room with this joke about Donald Trump’s supposed wall on the United States-Mexican border- “I think he will get a half mile wall of Legos, and his supporters will enjoy that.”
It was just one of the many lines that stole the show at her Tuesday morning session, “Multiculturalism and Today’s Media: The 2016 Election and What It All Means.”
This session was hands down the biggest highlight of the 2017 AHAA: The Voice of Hispanic Marketing conference.

The commentator for CNN, Telemundo and ABC was part of a panel that included the woman in that AWFUL and much maligned (very deservedly so I might add) Tronc video Anne Vasquez, and Juan Carlos Lopez, anchor of CNN en Español.
In case you haven’t seen the Tronc video, the one that’s main purpose is to provide endless comedic fodder, it’s here for you below:
Tronc, combined with Hoy, helped make the event possible by sponsoring it, and a cynical observer would conclude that Vazquez’s presence was a quasi-native advertisement for the media corporation itself. Of course, the contributions of the Tronc Digital Officer, as well as everyone else on the panel, were all greatly over-shadowed by the lifelong Republican on stage, who had a lot of choice words about “THE WALL.”
“I saw on TV (former Mexican President) Vincente Fox holding up a sign saying “we are not going to pay for the wall.”
“I’ve actually had Mexican friends call me and tell me that they are willing to pay for a wall around the White House to keep Donald Trump in,” said Navarro.

“I think the idea of the wall has almost become a little bit of a joke in some circles. This big beautiful wall with a little beautiful door, it’s not going to happen, it hasn’t happened and there isn’t going to be any funding. It’s not happening, and there’s a whole lot of Americans who got taken in by that fake promise,
“Whether it happens or not, it got him votes, and that’s a problem. I think it’s made the relationship with Mexico, which is such an important economic partner and ally for us, much worse.”

“He’ll probably get funding for a half a mile of wall made of legos, and he’s going to stand in front of it, and make a big deal about it, and his base will be very happy and say ‘look we’re going to have a wall,” she continued.
Navarro is a life-long Republican, so watching her party being led by someone so inept has been painful. The moderator asked her to elaborate on a quote she made recently: “Republicans have fallen prey to a Donald Trump cult.”
Her response: “Republicans need to find that sweet spot, like McCain when he’s not on Benadryl and Lindsey Graham has. The bottom line is I think there’s such excitement with the idea of having a Republican in the White House, and that we’re going to get get things done that they’re willing to look the other way when he does crazy things.”
“When somebody is acting crazy, you should be able to say he’s acting crazy. When Trump is having temporary sanity, you can work with him, and you should. Most people have temporary insanity, he has temporary sanity.”
“The Republican party is not doing enough of taking him on, I think they think that he is one day going to have a lobotomy, and four months in, it hasn’t happened.”
“We’re behaving in the most hypocritical ways. I was at the Romney retreat in Utah this weekend, and Paul Ryan a good friend of mine, was there, I love him, and I told him you are breaking my heart, because you were the last Republican hope for me, the guy I thought could bridge the gap, who spoke about poverty and compassionate conservatism and you’re no longer that.”
“Your brand is suffering tremendously, because you are unfairly tasked with having to work with Trump, and you’re giving him a pass,” Ana Navarro articulated.

Indeed the fate of the nation lies wth the sane, free-thinking, rational members of the GOP establishment. Sadly, Ryan is not behaving as one of them, and he, perhaps more than any other, needs to be called out for it.
