Former Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Redskins Wide Receiver, the only WR ever to throw a touchdown pass in a Super Bowl actually, gave a speech tonight at an Indiana University booster/alumni event. In town with the rest of Hoosiers football for Big Ten Media Days, Randle El gave a very brief address that was both humorous and inspirational.
Like Charles Barkley said America knows the difference between race and racism. Sir Charles believes you can joke about race, but obviously you can’t joke about racism. A good example is here when Randle El jokes about just how white the Indiana University campus in Bloomington really is. Certainly when compared to Riverdale, IL where he grew up. (The famous Thornton high school in Chicago’s south suburbs, very well known for the athletes that it produces, the joke/observation begins at the 1:45 mark)
But it’s not just a comedic speech, but it’s also inspirational. Randle El discusses how he proved the naysayers and doubters wrong en route to having a Super Bowl career.
Enjoy :
The voice of the Indiana Hoosiers Don Fisher, Athletic Director Fred Glass, and the greatest college football player in IU football history, Anthony Thompson also took to the podium during this private event held at Joe’s on Weed Street in Chicago. Then Head Coach Kevin Wilson took to the stage, and his remarks were much longer than everyone else combined. Wilson’s remarks weren’t exactly interesting either.
But what’s very interesting is……..the exclusive I had with Antwaan Randle El after the speech. I got his opinion on the Steelers prospects this year, the Redskins chances this season, and the Washington football team name debate.
