Bart Scott reminds me a lot of Howard Dean. Both are well known personalities in their respected fields who reside “Outside the Beltway” so to speak. Scott and Dean are known for having their opinions and you love/hate them for it. Of course, the first parallel coming to mind in this analogy is the loud moment coming from having a microphone turned up.
The Bart Scott “CAN’T WAIT!” moment (see the full interview below), after his New York Jets had upset the New England Patriots in the 2010 AFC Divisional playoffs, had the microphone turned up; because of crowd noise.
Likewise “Dr. Dean and the Primal Scream” was misleading too; account of the microphone being turned way up.
Bart Scott is known being opinionated; and he’s taken the media to task on a few occasions. This should serve him well with his new NFL pregame show on CBS Sports. I had an exclusive with him at NFL on CBS Media Day.
Bart Scott may be best known as a New York Jet, but he spent twice as many years with the Baltimore Ravens as he did with the New York Jets. Scott had his best year as a pro in 2006 with Baltimore. He made the Pro Bowl and All-Pro that season.
CBS’s new “That Other Pregame Show” is exactly what is sounds like, a break from the familiar NFL pregame show format. “TOPS” will be hosted by Adam Schein along with Bart Scott and long-time Oakland Raiders executive Amy Trask, the first woman to ever rise to such a high office in the NFL. It debuts Sunday September 8th on CBS Sports Network; from 8am-noon Central.
They’ll be joined by CBS Sports Radio’s Brandon Tierney, Nathan Zegura and Allie LaForce.
“I think we have an opportunity to do an interesting show, provide a different perspective. I look forward to kind of shaking things up and having fun,” Scott said.
“It’s a way make to a transition from the game while still being in the game at the same time. It’s a game that’s done so much for me,” he said.
“Everything I say, I get some type of response, because I have a unique personality and perspective on things. I believe what I believe and you have to tell me different, it’s just part of who I am and it will always be a part of who I am,” Scott continued.
“Some people love it, some people hate it, but all people I think are interested in it,” Bart Scott said.
Should make for good television.
I then asked him who he likes coming out of the AFC.
“I think it’s as wide open as it’s ever been. The Patriots are always going to be great, but with now the Broncos, and that series of injuries who knows?”
“I think the Broncos could have been above the Patriots given that they’re a complete team. They had a defense as well as an offense. The Patriots can put points on the board, but it’s always can they stop somebody when they go against those physical teams. I think the Broncos are physical enough to deal with it, but that’s why Houston always has a problem: trying to out-finesse the best finesse team in the game,” Bart Scott said.
