Jarrett Payton, Host of “Sports Feed” on Chicagoland Television Network and “The Beat” on WGN Radio, is the next guest on The Sports Bank podcast. We covered a whole host of wide ranging issues in this one. We talked some Chicago Bears, some Peanut Tillman, and the big event coming up next week that Charles Tillman is hosting.
Payton, myself, and a wide array of athlete celebs will be in attendance, including Matt Forte and Robert Griffin III, RG3.
We also discussed the topic of athletes speaking their mind publicly and perhaps the most thought-provoking of all our discussions pertained to Mike Ditka. Why do we seem to be talking about Ditka every week for the past three decades or so? Jarrett Payton had an interesting take.
“He did a great job letting people know who he was (back in 1985), and he is who he is and he speaks his mind,” said Payton, the son of Walter Payton, the star player on Ditka’s 1986 Super Bowl winning Bears team and quite possibly the greatest running back in NFL history.
“Whether you love or him or hate him, you got to love that he speaks his mind, and then stands behind it,” Payton told me by phone.
“That’s what’s really gotten him to this point. He’s honest, like it or not that’s how he feels and most people around him respect that about him. Rather than try to be someone else, he’s always been him, and I think that’s what’s resonated with people over time since 1985.”
