It was revealed today that the Chicago Bears are one of three finalists, along with the Steelers and Giants, to be the team featured on HBO Hard Knocks
The Chicago Bears have done a lot to improve the team heading towards the 2014-15 season. The additions of Lamarr Houston, Willie Young, and most recently Jared Allen will help an abysmal defense. The signing of Allen will also put Chicago head and shoulders above the other eligible teams for HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks’ series.
Allen, tight end Martellus Bennett, and head coach Marc Trestman may be three of the most unique and entertaining people in the NFL. What better way to showcase three phases of a team than with a slightly off defensive end, an enlightening offensive weapon, and the “nerdy” head coach in a macho sport. Those are just the three of the better known personalities from last season. Wide receiver Brandon Marshall, offensive lineman Kyle Long, linebacker Lance Briggs, and quarterback Jay Cutler have been the subject of talk based on their characteristics.
HBO is always looking for the best storylines from the best possible situations. A team could be a tire fire waiting to happen, but if it is entertaining it has to be aired. The Chicago Bears have a chance to be a very good team next season if the newest additions blend in with the team and the offense stays on a similar pace from last season.
Having a potential playoff team with a handful of the best personalities in the NFL has to be the most attractive option to the brass at HBO. Airing the Chicago Bears would also be must-watch television every Sunday night in Chicago, and across America. Bad teams draw numbers on ‘Hard Knocks.’ The Chicago Bears would catapult to the top of the list in all-time viewership, no question.
