After two years of agonizing speculation and rumors, it appears that Ricky Rubio and the Minnesota Timberwolves have finally reached an agreement to bring the Spanish sensation to the land of 10,000 lakes.
While Rubio hasn’t put up the most ideal numbers in the two years since the Wolves used the 5th overall pick on the young point guard, the signing brings life and hope to a franchise that has been searching for something to hang their hats on.
News of the signing was first broken on Twitter by Minneapolis radio host Dan Barreiro. The KFAN personality tweeted:
“Breaking: A source tells me Wolves have secured deal with Ricky Rubio to join the team next season.”
His report was shortly there after supported by Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski:
“Ricky Rubio has reached an agreement with Minnesota to join the Timberwolves next season, league sources tell Y!”
Debate will continue about the prospects of Rubio being the star that Timberwolves President David Kahn thinks has suggested he’ll be.
Regardless, it appears that finally after two years Rubio’s presence will be felt on the floor of the Target Center this November.
For Timberwolves fans alike, today is a good day for the future of this struggling franchise.
