Minnesota sports suffer, yet another, serious injury to a superstar. According to sources, Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love needed help leaving the floor Wednesday night against the Denver Nuggets after suffering a blow to the head by JaVale McGee and a mild concussion. I wouldn’t be surprised if Love is out for the rest of the season. This is just another injury added to an injury list that includes Ricky Rubio (torn ACL), Adrian Peterson (torn ACL), and Trevor Mbakwe (Torn ACL). All injuries have taken placed during the 2011-2012 sports season and have had extreme repercussions on their respective teams. Since Rubio tore his ACL in early March, the Timberwolves have slid down the standings and have fallen completely out of the playoff race in the Western Conference.
Justin Morneau and Denard Span, of the Minnesota Twins, know all about concussions and the lasting effects they can have on an athletes. Today, concussions are the most fragile of injuries to deal with when one is recovering from one. Morneau became concussed during July of the 2010 season and he still hasn’t fully recovered. Span suffered a concussion last season and he hasn’t been the same since, either.
Love was in the MVP race back in March, a month in which he finished averaging 30 ppg and 15 rpg, but has since fallen out of contention, as has the Timberwolves playoff hopes.
Love ranks 4th in the league in scoring (26.5 ppg) and 2nd in the league in rebounding (13.5 rpg).
