A fake Devin Harris twitter account spread a rumor that the newest member of the Utah Jazz was being traded to the Portland Blazers for Wesley Matthews. Damn social media!!!

Late Wednesday night, a twitter handle of RealDevinHarris tweeted the following:
“really shocking words im off to portland according to my agent Henry Thomas”
“i will be wearing #2 heading to portland to play with my mam brandon roy. see yah there”
“wat a strange day took my talents to utah and now portland really crazy..”
“off to portland leaving my hotel once again”
“of to portland you guys are going to be suprised tommorow if you think im fake..”
By 2:15 a.m. the twitter account had been deleted which of course indicates that this was another fake account looking to stir up some madness. It had me fooled. For a minute, I was freaking out about posting an article especially when someone else tweeted @RealDevinHarris that the former Badger was being traded for former Marquette Golden Eagle and Utah Jazz guard Wesley Matthews. Notice that the second tweet says that “Harris” would wear #2 in Portland which is currently Matthews’ number.
I was not the only one fooled though, even a message board at RealGM.com was confused. The lesson as always, people are idiots and social media is taking over the world. Also, I stay up way, way, WAY too late especially when I am up stalking the internet for NBA trade rumors. I need to go to bed…

Wesley Matthews played his high school ball in Madison, Wisconsin but chose to play head East to play his college basketball at Marquette in Milwaukee. Devin Harris grew up in the Brew City attending Wauwatosa East High School but headed west for college playing at Wisconsin which is located in Madison. It appears the two will once again cross paths as the Jazz are rumored to be sending the newly-acquired Harris to the Blazers for Matthews, who played in Utah during his rookie season last year.

Strange day indeed… Just earlier on Wednesday, Harris part of the deal that sent Deron Williams to New Jersey. About 16 hours later, it appears the Jazz are flipping Harris to Portland. And for who?
Wesley Matthews.
Yes, the same Matthews who was on the Jazz last season but ended up signing a deal with Portland this off-season as a restricted free agent that Utah had the opportunity to match, but elected not to. And for the record, that is a Madison native getting dealt for a Milwaukee native and a former Wisconsin Badger getting dealt for a former Marquette Golden Eagle.
I will have more on this deal Thursday when the official details are announced.
