Swearing in a professional setting is kind of like putting wasabi on your food or typing in the ALL CAPS font to convey that you’re YELLING! It’s cool to do it once in awhile, and when you do, you do it sparingly. A little context here first this was at the very tail end of a NBA Playoffs media conference call that lasted about 90-100 minutes or so.
And because it was TNT’s Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith who were featured; it was extremely informative and entertaining. Barkley was especially interesting and captivating.
He talked about how the Chicago Bulls versus the Cleveland Cavaliers is the real Eastern Conference Finals, and he began previewing their series. Yes, he previewed the Bulls vs Cavs, in the second round, before Bulls vs Bucks and Cavs versus Celtics in the opening round has even started (here’s the transcript).
In this post we covered why he’s not sold on the Atlanta Hawks. And at this link Charles Barkley is asked his much publicized relationship with Michael Jordan (he gave some very candid answers, audio here)
Anyway, the clip below is at the end of a very long, but very good conference call and Sir Charles is asked about the people out there who ripped his college hoops analyst work during March Madness.
Barkley drops a few f-bombs. Smith has a great automobile analogy in there when discussing the difference between college and pro basketball. Listen to the whole clip so you can hear the call moderator’s “hey that’s all the time we have today.”
Never change Charles Barkley, never change. He’s right too! You can’t please everybody. Haters gonna hate. I’m as obscure as it gets and even I have haters. Charles Barkley has absolutely the right attitude about how to deal with them.
“My critics can kiss my ass, and I’ve got plenty of it. Which is good, in case there’s a lot of them,” he said.
