Tonight at Chase Field in Downtown Phoenix, Arizona the 2011 MLB All-Star Home Run Derby was won by Robinson Cano from the New York Yankees. The second baseman for the evil empire bested Adrian Gonzalez, the first baseman from the rival Boston Red Sox.
It was another banner moment in the most famous rivalry in all of sports. Cano took it home by slugging nine homers in the final round, a couple of which landed in the famous pool in centerfield.
Cano was crowned champion after hitting his record 12th home run with four outs remaining. His home run to tie Gonzalez went 472 feet, the second longest of the derby. Cano’s performance was especially stellar when you consider that it bested a final round record tied by Gonzalez. Adrian’s 11 home runs tied a final round record previously set by David Ortiz and Bobby Abreu.
