Major League Baseball sometimes struggles in moving the needle on the internet.
Baseball is very unique in that the high level of popularity enjoyed by the sport is often not well reflected by web traffic statistics. Page view numbers can consistently fall far below what you’d expect given how many Americans love the sport, and it’s a phenomena more commonplace to MLB than in the other major sports.
Thus, an upcoming seminar on baseball audience engagement, featuring front office professionals from the Chicago White Sox, Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers, is extremely timely and very relevant. The session is entitled “How is MLB Connecting with a multicultural Audience?” and it’s part of the 2017 AHAA: The Voice of Hispanic Marketing.
AHAA will be held June 12–14, 2017 at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago, Illinois.
The MLB session will be held on Tuesday the 13 from 2:30 p.m.- 3:30 p.m. and it features the following speakers:
Sheena Quinn, Director of Public Relations, Chicago White Sox
Kathy Schwab, Senior Director of Marketing, Milwaukee Brewers
Adrian Williams, Director of Diversity and Inclusion Marketing, Atlanta Braves
2017 AHAA Annual Conference Speakers will discuss how technology, disruption, politics, culture, creativity and content play a pivotal role in successful Hispanic marketing strategies. This year’s theme will cover the latest trends, data and strategies for reaching American Hispanics in an increasingly digital age.
Baseball, like many other industries, is undergoing a lot of growing pains as it adjusts to the changing times. The White Sox, Brewers, Braves, and every other team for that matter, must also now adjust to a landscape where ESPN will play a diminished role.
The self-ascribed “world wide leader” just went through a very highly publicized round of down-sizing, and they gutted their on-air talent for baseball coverage as much as they did for any other sport.
The actions Bristol took can give us clues into how people will be watching baseball moving forward. During Quinn, Schwab and Williams’ session, the convention-goer might get a glimpse into some of what the White Sox, Brewers and Braves’ plans are for this new reality.
