What a coup this is for the Milwaukee Brewers. With a deal like this in place, the Brew Crew have to be considered right up there with the Cards and Reds as favorites in the NL Central. Tonight it was leaked that they acquired one of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball.
According to Canada’s leading news agency TSN:
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that the Milwaukee Brewers have reached a preliminary agreement that would send shortstop Alcides Escobar, outfielder Lorenzo Cain and right-handed pitcher Jeremy Jeffress to the Royals in exchange for the 2009 AL Cy Young award winner, shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt and $2 million.
According to the Journal Sentinel, the deal is expected to be announced on Monday.
Here’s what the Journal-Sentinel had posted on the topic, one their blog. With the warning disclaimer of course:
**Disclaimer: This is a rumor that has not yet been confirmed from within the organization, but I feel comfortable enough with the information and the source to publish this rumor. Please just keep in mind that this is only a rumor and should be treated as such until further notice.**
A source informed me earlier today that the Milwaukee Brewers have come to a preliminary agreement with the Kansas City Royals for a deal that would send pitcher Zack Greinke to Milwaukee.
The rumored agreement would send shortstop Alcides Escobar, center fielder Lorenzo Cain, and right-hander Jeremy Jeffress to Kansas City in return for Greinke, shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt and approximately $2M.
