Los Angeles Dodgers newcomer Yasiel Puig took MLB by storm last summer. In a sport that lacks a true “poster child,” Puig might just develop into that iconic figure. And Puig could become that definitive superstar sooner rather than later. Or it could be the Angels Mike Trout. Chances are it will be somebody from the City of sAngels.
Last year Puig made a 280 foot throw (distance according to MLB Network) that was just insanely perfect from deep in right field of Nationals Park.
Unfortunately, umpire Eric Cooper blew the call. The throw from Puig got to former White Sox infielder and currents Nats 3B Juan Uribe in time; clearly. However, Cooper saw it differently and Harper was ruled safe.
Take another look at Yasiel Puig making this incredible throw, and judge for yourself. Was he robbed?
Earlier today, FOX Sports conducted a press call to preview Major League Baseball’s upcoming
All-Star Game. Coverage begins with AMERICA’S PREGAME: All-Star Edition on FOX Sports 1 Tuesday, July 15 (4:30 PM ET), leading directly into coverage on the FOX broadcast network LIVE from Target Field at 7:30 PM ET. FOX Sports President Eric Shanks and Executive Vice President, Production, John Entz were joined by All-Star Game play-by-play announcer Joe Buck and All-Star Game analysts Tom Verducci and Harold Reynolds to discuss FOX Sports’ coverage of the Mid-Summer Classic.
Transcribed below are highlights from today’s press call
Given a choice between Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout or Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, Verducci and Reynolds pick which one they’d choose if starting an MLB team.
Reynolds: “Right now, Mike Trout has the following and the fundamentals down a little bit more, but [Yasiel] Puig might be a little more exciting, believe it or not.”
Verducci: “For me, I have to go with Mike Trout. He is six years younger, and he plays in the middle of the field – not that Yasiel [Puig] couldn’t play center. For me, hands down, he is the best all-around player in the game. But I’ll say this: those two guys to me are two of the top five most exciting players in the game.”
