This has not been a good off-season for the Michigan State basketball program.
After dealing with Derrick Nix’s marijuana-related arrest, the green and white just received some more bad news about a former player.
Graduated guard and Valpo transfer Brandon Wood was arrested Sunday morning in Chicago for allegedly assaulting and battering a woman.
Brandon Howell of MLive reported that the guard, who is in the city preparing for the NBA draft, “was accused of slapping a 32-year-old woman after she asked him to leave her home.”
Wood posted bond yet the amount was not released. He is set to appear in Cook County misdemeanor/ordinance court on June 1. The Kokomo, IN., native was charged with charged with battery, assault and criminal trespassing of a residence, all of which are misdeamenor offenses.
Wood graduated from Valparaiso before joining the MSU squad for the 2011-2012 season on an NCAA rule that allows student athletes that have transferred to by-pass sitting out for a year if they enroll in graduate-level classes. Wood averaged 8.8 points per game for the Spartans and was a key and consistent player for the team throughout the season.
