Ashley Youngย was not jettisoned this past January transfer window, as had been previously speculated. However, his future with Manchester United still remains up in the air.
“I have another year left on my contract and a one-year option after that,” Young told the media on Tuesday. “So if there is anything there to be discussed, you would have to ask the manager.ย I have always said that I want to play as much as possible. What the future holds I am not too sure.”
Young continued:
“I am just concentrating on each game and when the manager calls on me, I will give 100 percent and look to play as well as I can.
“I am looking to play as many games as I can between now and the end of the season. That is what I am concentrating on now. That is the main focus for me and then we will see what happens.”
The last time United Manager Joseย Mourinho spoke on this topic, it was duringย his preview press conference ahead of the Hull City league clash. It’s relevant because the session was held on the very last day of the January transfer window.
“Yeah, he’s staying. he’s definitely stays, he’s selected for tomorrow. (the transfer talk) is finished, he stays with me until the end of the season,” Mourinho said then.
โThe only player that I am aware of a possibility to leave, and I am waiting for January 31 to know what is going on, is Ashley Young, a player I would love to keep,โ The Portugese stated on January 29th.
โI am not happy if he leaves, but he is the only player that I am informed has a possibility of leaving. That is why he didnโt play and I gave chances to other people, because I donโt know if he is going to stay.
โIf I could choose, definitely yes he would stay with us.โ
