The season opener for Illini football is August 31st.
They’ll take on FCS school Southern Illinois as part of Social Media Day. All Illini fans that like the official Fighting Illini football Facebook page and follow the @Illini Football Twitter account by halftime will be entered to win a personalized Illinois jersey.
If you’re already a fan or follower, then you’re already entered to win.
In addition, Facebook fans and Twitter followers will be eligible to win a pair of tickets to the Sept. 14 Chicago Homecoming game against Washington at Soldier Field. The winners will be announced at Memorial Stadium and on Illini football social media pages at the end of the third quarter versus SIU.
Social Media Day also entails a “tweet your seat” promotion where 100 fans will get an #Illini T-shirt, plus fan tweets will appear on the new Memorial Stadium video board during the game. Fans are encouraged to Tweet or Instagram photos of themselves tailgating, cheering at Memorial Stadium or watching at home in their Illini football gear using the hashtag #Illini.
Selected photos, possibly selfies, will be retweeted and shared by the official Fighting Illini football social media accounts.
