It’s been that kind of year for the Illinois Fighting Illini and their hopeless coach Tim Beckman. At 2-10, winless in conference and blown out in more than half their losses, it’s been pure phantasmagoria.
Today’s blowout loss to Northwestern brought more pain. On the field, and the sideline.
This isn’t even Beckman’s first sideline snafu this season. Back in October he was caught with chewing tobacco on national tv during a game (a NCAA violation)
Today, Beckman was running along the sideline urging his team to play defense after a Northwestern interception and ran down the field. The only problem was that Beckman was right in the path of the official, who knocked him to the ground and then flagged him for being in the way.
The penalty put Northwestern in the red zone and the Wildcats scored on the very next play.
