NEW JERSEYS TO BE UNVEILED SEPTEMBER 6
The Winnipeg Jets have announced that they will unveil their new jerseys at a news conference on Tuesday, September 6. The unveiling will be at 11:00 am in Winnipeg at the Department of National Defense 17 Wing base. The jerseys will make their unveiling just days before the Jets hold their prospect camp, and will see their first game action during the Jets’ preseason schedule. True North Sports has announced a press conference for 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 6 at the Department of National Defense 17 Wing base in Winnipeg. At the press conference, they will unveil both the home and away jerseys for the reincarnated Winnipeg Jets. The team will first wear the game jerseys in a split squad series with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday, September 20. The team will play games in both Winnipeg and Columbus, allowing fans to see both jerseys on the ice on the same night. It has also been announced that the jerseys will be available for sale before the season opener on Sunday, October 9 against the Montreal Canadiens.
Recently, Canadian Mounties and border agents seized a shipment of counterfeit Winnipeg Jets gear. The agents seized 40 fake jerseys featuring the new Winnipeg Jets logos and word marks. The fake jerseys were estimated to be worth about $12,000. Despite the forgeries, the fake logos and jerseys, and the leaking of the actual new logo before the team officially announced the logo, the summer has been good to the new Jets brand. Merchandise sales have been great so far, and the team is getting ready to start its first training camp north of the border.
While we speculate over the next couple days before True North shows the world what the Winnipeg Jets will be wearing this season, below are a couple of ideas that Icethetics, a blog dedicated to hockey logos and jerseys, has collected of what a new Winnipeg Jets logo jersey could look like. Some are strong, some are quite tacky, and some are obviously for fun. Below are a couple of my favorite designs at this point that I’ve seen.
