Hear ye! Hear ye! Thine most trophy of all highest esteem within all of sport, thy Cup of thee Lord Stanley shall be descending upon thy gridiron of Northwestern University.
Yes, the Stanley Cup came to Ryan Field in 2010, it didn’t come in 2013, but it will be here Saturday for NU’s 3 p.m. kickoff against Eastern Illinois.
According to a release via the University:
“Blackhawks chairman and Northwestern alumnus Rocky Wirtz , president & CEO John McDonough and executive vice president Jay Blunk will serve as honorary captains for the game, joining both teams and the officials at midfield for the coin toss, while Jim Cornelison will deliver his one-of-a-kind performance of The Star-Spangled Banner.”
NU will honor the Stanley Cup winning Chicago Blackhawks on the field before the game.
Yes, Wirtz is one of the many connections between the Blackhawks and Northwestern. Obviously their shared partnership with WGN radio is the most prominent. The Stanley Cup is coming to NU, so you know what that means- get those selfie sticks and Instagram filters ready for a workout.
