The Victor Lindelof to Manchester United narrative continues to gather momentum amongst the tabloids. The Daily Mail headlines that United are “closing in” on a £35 million deal for the Benfica center half. Also the Daily Mirror are claiming that “United will seal their first summer signing on Wednesday” in a £35 million move to Old Trafford.
Of course, the bigger buzz right now surrounds the addition of Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, but it appears Lindelof could be the acquisition that’s completed first. Of course Morata gets more headlines than Lindelof, scorers/strikers always get much more attention than defenders.
The Sun claims that Victor Lindelof will be in Manchester on Wednesday to undergo a medical, after he completes his next tour of international duty with Sweden.

He’s been on United’s radar for quite some time. United Manager Jose Mourinho was interested in buying him back during the January transfer window.
“If we buy a player we buy a player, we’re not buying two, three or four,” he told Sky Sports News right before Christmas; transcript Daily Mirror, who claim that player will be Benfica Defender Victor Lindelof.
“I believe more in the summer market than in the winter window. More time, more choice, I think it’s better. But let’s see what happens.”
Fellow central defender Eric Bailly said in January that he hopes Lindelof will join him in the United back line. Here’s a link to what he told the Swedish media back then.
