On Sunday we learned that Marcus Rashford has had a very special honor bestowed upon him by Manchester United. He will wear the historic No. 10 shirt, which has been vacant since Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his final appearance with the club towards the end of 2017.
Rashford wore it for the first time tonight in United’s 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich in an international friendly. The England international started and played 65 minutes in what was yet another drab result from United this preseason.

“He always wanted it. He always respected Rooney and then Zlatan wanted to have it. Of course he was in the shadows waiting for the opportunity,” said United manager Jose Mourinho of Rashford getting the iconic squad number.
“The shirt is empty. It’s something fantastic the kid, let’s give it to him.”
With the exception of the legendary, larger than life No. 7, the No. 10 is about special as it gets in United’s illustrious history. In addition to Ibrahimovic, it’s been worn by Wayne Rooney, Teddy Sheringham and Ruud van Nistelrooy among others.
