There are many famous Tottenham Hotspur fans, including Adele, Jude Law and this guy: two time NBA MVP (2005-06) and soon retiring superstar Steve Nash joined Tottenham Hotspur during their training in Toronto (here’s video). As he’s entering his final season with the L.A. Lakers, and in the league in general, he will soon have a more of a chance to go over to London and see his favorite team play in person at White Hart Lane.
Steve Nash was with Tottenham the day before Spurs defeated Toronto FC 3-2 in an international friendly. Nash grew up in the west coast of Canadawanting to play professional soccer as a child. That sport, not basketball, was actually the first love of the current Los Angeles Lakers point guard. His father and grandfather were both from Tottenham, so being a true Spurs supporter runs deep in his bloodlines.
So now that Spurs are in Chicago to play the Chicago Fire tomorrow in an international friendly. And with that, I asked Manager Mauricio Pochettino and Winger Andros Townsend what they thought of Nash’s athletic ability and soccer skills when he came out to train with them.
“He played very well, it surprised me, and it was a funny moment because he’s a big, big star,” said Pochettino.
He then thanked Steve Nash for the support and said how important it is to have big name supporters like him in North America.
“It was a pleasure to have him come train with us. If he was coming to watch Spurs for the first time, he wouldn’t have looked out of place at all,” said Townsend.
“We’re just hoping that he’s not coming for my place,” he joked.
