As Harry Kane continues his assault on the Premier League scoring record book, one former Arsenal coach reflected on bypassing the chance to sign the Tottenham Hotspur striker. The reason why is what truly astounds- Liam Brady, former Arsenal Head of Youth Development and Academy Director, said that the young Englishman had too much body fat and not enough athleticism.
The current Ambassador of The Arsenal Foundation said of Harry Kane.
“He was a bit chubby and not very athletic, but we made a mistake, but Tottenham also sent him on loan three or four times in the lower leagues.”
“Yet he’s got that determination and is building a great career for himself, and he deserves it.”
Brady does make a solid point- Kane is someone who has certainly nor been regarded very highly throughout his career. He’s dealt with plenty of doubters, and that skepticism certainly motivates the 24-year-old to reach higher and achieve more. After 2014-15, his breakout season, many thought that he was simply a one year wonder. Then he went out and won back to back golden boot awards.
Now he’s on pace to far outpace the scoring production of both golden boot award seasons. Today, Harry Kane is drawing comparisons to Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Pele. Not bad for a guy who was once deemed too chubby and not athletic.
