It doesn’t always work to his advantage, but you have to give Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose this- he certainly does not hold back. He’s often notably quotable in what he has to say to the media, and it’s extremely refreshing for reporters and fans.
Rose has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane for some time, and no doubt you’ll see him in the gossip pages once the next silly season arrives in January. Or maybe not, as Rose just pre-emptively blew up all the winter window transfer rumors.
Danny Rose laid it all out there, telling the Evening Standard that he was not offered a new deal by the club, but will see out the rest of his deal. He’s not going anywhere until his contract has run its course.
โItโs pretty obvious what happened [in the summer]. People upstairs at Tottenham were trying to do what they were trying to do. Iโve said [to them] Iโve got 18 months left on my contract and Iโm not going anywhere until my contract has ยญfinished,โ Rose said.
โIn January, youโre probably going to hear something [about my future]. Iโm telling you right now that Iโm not going anywhere until my contract is finished. [Tottenham chairman]ย Daniel Levyย told me in the summer there was no new contract for me at Tottenham, which is fine. I respect that. We move on.
โMy contract is up in 18 monthsโ time and Iโll leave the football club then. People [in the media] can save their time ยญtrying to get stuff ready for January about me being sold. Because I can tell you now: it ainโt happening. I know what people were trying to do in the summerโฆ There were no bids โ that was rubbish.โ
Other than that, tell us how you really feel!
If you had to single out one thing that’s led to Tottenham’s collapse this season, and you really can’t, as it’s multi-faceted, but still- it would be the players who wanted out this summer not being allowed to leave/getting their exits. Rose, like Christian Eriksen and a couple/few others, are now kind of stuck in limbo. Eriksen,ย Jan Vertonghenย andย Toby Alderweireld will all be out of contract next summer.
Levy, known to be an extremely hard-line negotiator, made a huge mistake in not letting certain players move on just because he didn’t get the sale price he wanted.
It’s nearly impossible for players in this kind of situation to really focus on their on the pitch performances when their futures off of it are so uncertain. You can see it in Spurs domestic performance, as they currently sit 14th in the table, with just 14 points after the first 12 games.
They’re only six points and four spots above the drop zone.ย At least their Champions League campaign has gone well lately. After an embarrassing loss to Bayern Munich, they’ve won their last two and look likely to be moving on to the knockout round.
Danny Rose, for what it’s worth, says that he’s enjoying playing under manager Mauricio Pochettino, and that the two of them have a great relationship.
