With the exception of Christian Eriksen, perhaps no key Tottenham Hotspur player has been more strongly linked with a move away this summer than defender Danny Rose. And like Eriksen, Rose has made public comments hinting at an exit from north London.
With the case of Rose however, his comments come off with a real que sera sera laissez-faire kind of feel. He seems rather un-phased by it all.
“If I’m back at Tottenham next season, great, if I’m not – great,” the English international said to Sky Sports (transcript BBC).
“I don’t know what the future holds now but I’m looking forward to a break.”
Rose has been linked with Manchester City, Manchester United and Everton, among others, with talk of the Toffees demanding him as part of any deal for Lucas Digne.
The 29-year-old also stated his belief that perhaps his age is keeping him from being the team’s number one priority at the left back position.
“It’s not about regular first-team football. I know my age and I know how the club’s run in terms of if you get to a certain age they might look to ship you on,” he continued.
Danny Rose is ahead of Luke Shaw on the England pecking order, so if he did move to United, chances are he could be the first choice at that position at Old Trafford.
He’s expressed a desire to leave Tottenham in the past, before ultimately deciding to stay, so perhaps that’s why he’s just so utterly chill about the whole situation.
“I’ll be just sitting tight over the next few weeks and just seeing what happens,” Rose continued. “Either way, I’m prepared for whatever happens. Last season I didn’t play as much as I wanted.”
“This season I’ve played quite a bit, it’s been really good.”
He did feature 37 times for Spurs this past season, including a starting assignment in the 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the UCL final on the first of the month.
