When will Ryan finally get his first major managerial gig? Will it be with the Wales National Team? Current Stoke City and former Wales boss Mark Hughes recommends that Ryan Giggs take over the vacant position as leader of the Dragons. Hughes, in an interview with BBC Radio Five Live’s “Sportsweek,” endorsed his fellow Welshman.
“I think he would be a candidate and a good choice,” Hughes said.
“I’d recommend him. I know from my experience of getting the Welsh job early in my career, they weren’t ideal circumstances if I’m honest, but as a very young manager finding my way, all that was a learning experience for myself and I found it invaluable.”
Ryan Giggs was capped 64 times for Wales, and he served at Manchester United for 29 years of his career in some capacity. This almost three decade long tenure included a four game stint as caretaker manager once David Moyes was sacked in the spring of 2014 and an assistantship to Louis van Gaal for two seasons.
Giggs, along with Tony Pulis, are the favorites to land to land the Wales manager position. Hughes is definitely a man with juice in the Wales football program, and his opinion certainly counts. He scored 16 goals while being capped 72 times for Wales, and he managed the side from 1999-2004.
Perhaps Wales will finally provide the big break that Giggs has been looking for since the Jose Mourinho era at Old Trafford began, and squeezed him out of the organization.
