Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku is certainly having a rough go of it right now. He’s currently in the midst of his worst scoring drought since he made the move to United from Everton. Now he’s got a muscular injury to boot. You can’t break out of a slump if you’re not on the pitch, and the Belgian was left out of United’s squad that won at Bournemouth today 2-1.
It was the first loss of the season for the south coast club at home and United’s first road league win since September. After the game manager Jose Mourinho explained why Lukaku was absent, and indicated that he’s unsure about when he might return to action.
This will be greater assessment of Lukaku’s fitness in the next couple of days.
“I have to wait until Monday,” Mourinho said in a postgame news conference. “He needs these couple of days. It was something in training. We don’t know, a muscle problem, and we have to wait a little bit.”
Although Lukaku is no doubt struggling majorly, the Red Devils still need all hands on deck for what will be a massive week ahead. They fly to Turin on Tuesday for the UEFA Champions League group stage clash at Juventus. Then it’s the first Manchester Derby of the season, this one at Man City, on Sunday.
