Roberto Firmino was a doubt entering tonight’s 3-2 UEFA Champions League group stage win over Paris Saint-Germain, but he exited as the headline story. That’s because the Brazilian, who didn’t come on in until the 72′, scored the game winning goal and then stole the show with his post goal celebration, which poked (pun intended) fun at the frightening eye injury he suffered this past weekend.
In Liverpool’s win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, Firmino got into a tussle with Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen, whose finger ended up deep in the Reds forward’s eye socket. He suffered “an abrasion of the eye,” but “no lasting damage.”
With that in mind, watch his goal celebration in the video below:

The eye patch themed celebration, expectedly, blew up on social media.
This joke went viral:

After the match, Firmino’s teammate, midfielder James Milner extolled the virtues of the match night hero: “I can’t say enough good things about Bobby. To come off the bench after his injury at the weekend is incredible really.”
What a special night for the crowd at Anfield. We knew entering this match that the Liverpool-PSG fixtures had the potential to bey very memorable, and this one certainly did not disappoint.
