Ole Gunnar Solskjaer met the media today, ahead of Manchester United’s hosting Chelsea FC on the weekend and he was asked whether or not he has considered dropping No. 1 David de Gea, who has had a very uncharacteristic run of really poor form lately.
De Gea, who was United’s player of the year in four of the last five seasons, is having an oddly pedestrian campaign, and the bad gaffes he made versus Manchester City made the difference in the result of the derby.
However, Solskjaer has no intentions of replacing the Spaniard.
“No, not at all, because I trust David and he’s, for me, been the best player United have had in last six or seven years, absolutely outstanding,” the Norwegian responded.
“Going through tough patches is part of a footballer’s career, and David will be fine.”
De Gea and the club are still at an impasse regarding contract extension talks however.
“That’s something you have to deal with as a footballer,” Solksjaer said of the current state of contract talks.
“You don’t always have a contract for five or 10 years or three years. It’s a situation, David’s coming in every single day doing what he should be doing.”
