Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho said in his prematch press conference ahead of Watford that he expects Zlatan Ibrahimovic to finish the top level portion of his playing career next season (2017-18).
Mourinho believes that Ibrahimovic will be playing that season under him at Old Trafford too.
“I’m totally convinced he is going to stay,” Mourinho said. “He came with the intention to stay two years, but in the minds of everyone the first year is going better than every expectation.”
“He knows we are going to try again to improve next season and try to share with him, in a fantastic way, probably the last year of his career at the highest level.
“So I’m convinced that he’s staying, he’s adapted to the club, to the situation.
“I don’t see any problem with his family. I gave him the possibility of a few days off to go to Sweden, but he doesn’t want to, he prefers to stay here, so I’m totally convinced he is going to stay.”
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been United’s leading scorer this season, having far surpassed expectations thus far. Anthony Martial was United’s leading scorer last season, with Marcus Rashford being a major weapon at times late in the campaign. Ibra has certainly overshadowed both of them, as well as everyone else in the attack, aging like a fine wine.
There is no reason to believe he won’t be stellar again in ’17-’18.
