A second season at Manchester United is still not guaranteed for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, claims the Mirror, and the hold-up is due to United’s uncertainty over reaching the UEFA Champions League. Ibrahimovic joined United this past summer on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, and it’s been widely thought that he’s going to play another season beyond this one and the top tier of world football.
United Manager Jose Mourinho maintains a very close relationship with Zlatan, and the Portugese has hinted that the superstar scorer’s days playing at the highest level will be over at the end of next year, and year will be spent at Old Trafford. Ibra has had a phenomenal season with the Red Devils, as he is far and away the team’s highest goal scorer.
However, according to the Daily Mirror Zlatan Ibrahimovic is
reluctant to go a second season without playing in the world’s most prestigious club competition.
The Swedish striker is 36 in October and believes next season could be his last at one of Europe’s top clubs before he heads to the MLS.
Champions League football is hugely important to him and he does not want to miss out on it in what is likely to be his final campaign.
United have lost just once in their last 26 across all competitions, seeing them on an incredible run of from since October. However, they are still in the same spot in the Premier League standings as they were when this run began- sixth.
United remain well within striking distance of fourth and even third place, but they need the clubs in front of them to stumble. There is another route to UCL if they don’t reach the top four and that’s winning the Europa League tournament. United are currently in the UEL’s round of 16, where they will face FC Rostov.
