Toni Kroos to Manchester United was a really pervasive 2014 summer transfer window narrative, but the German susperstar ended up choosing Real Madrid instead. The world class central midfielder, who’s now been a part of two European title teams at the Bernabeu, has no regrets about that decision either, according to the Mirror.
In fact, he’s quite glad in the decision that he made three years ago.
“My change of team was correct. In fact, from my point of view there is no doubt about it,” Kroos said while currently on international duty with Germany.
“Clearly, if you go abroad to a top club, it means one more step in your development. Carlo Ancelotti wanted me in Madrid, and had bet on me.”
Germany take on Azerbaijan and Northern Ireland in 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers before club play resumes at the end of next week. In 2016, there were more rumors linking Toni Kroos to United, but obviously that was much more smoke than fire.
During the same press conference, Kroos discussed just how much he admires Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, and how much the manager has helped him develop his game.
“From the beginning, he (Zidane) gave me a lot of confidence, and in his two years he’s played me in almost every game, especially in the big games,” Kroos continued.
“Trust me, I will always try to give everything for the team. We have a good relationship. A friendly relationship with the coach is important for each player.”
