Romelu Lukaku had a goal and an assist in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford today. This was Lukaku’s first Premier League goal against a team in the top eight of the standings this season. It was also his first goal in a league game involving Chelsea. It took 18 tries, including seven in which he was a member of the Blues.
“Its a good day for me [getting a goal and an assist] and we won so that’s the most important thing,” Lukaku said on MOTD.
“To get the winner would have been even better for me, but to get the goal before half time was really important for us. We showed our qualities and our desire in the second half.”
“It was a good, intense game to play in, with a bit of skill here and there, I think the neutral fan would have enjoyed it today.”
You know the familiar Lukaku narrative- great against small clubs, absent against the big boys. Thus, you kind of knew what was coming- some slams against Chelsea, referring to the Stamford Bridge outfit as a “small club.” Numerous Twitter users made some variation of the same joke.
Here is a small sample of some of the tweets:
Another game, another goal for Lukaku against a small team. Predictable.
