You already kind of new that Matteo Darmian was on his way out the Manchester United door in January. This report, if it holds true, just further confirms it. These claims also pose an interesting dilemma pertaining to Antonio Valencia though; who’s settled in at the right back position at Old Trafford.
According to ESPN FC, United will prioritize the right back position during the January transfer window.
Jose Mourinho is seeking to add more pace to the Manchester United team and will prioritise right-backs in the January window, reviving the club’s interest in Fabinho of Monaco and Everton’s Seamus Coleman, sources have told ESPN FC.
Consequently, sources say he will go back to United’s interest in Fabinho and Coleman. Mourinho had wanted to improve the full-back areas in the summer, but felt other positions needed to be fixed first.
Coleman has been linked to United quite often in transfer gossip these past couple years. No rumors ever brought a deal close to the brink of getting completed, but he name keeps coming up.
According to the ESPN article, Fabinho is the Red Devils’ primary target, but he would be a harder acquisition to make, and thus Coleman is the fall back and more realistic option.
You can expect he won’t com cheaply either. The entire Premier League absolutely broke the bank as a whole this past summer transfer window, and Old Trafford could be leading the way if it happens again this winter.
