Following Manchester United‘s overwhelmingly convincing 4-0 win at home over West Ham yesterday, many different Red Devils were hailed as heroes. Among them was holding midfielder Nemanja Matic, who was hailed by some as the best player on the pitch. Other pundits deemed him the pick up of the summer for Manager Jose Mourinho, who now has a trusted lieutenant on the field directing traffic amongst his players.
The manager and player duo made beautiful music together at Chelsea, and now reunited, they are expected to flourish together once again.
Nemanja Matic and company are certainly off to a fantastic start in the Premier League, with the season opener Sunday going about as well as could be expected. One factor into United’s dominating performance was a pregame speech given by Mourinho to his players. Clearly, it did the trick and fired the team up.
Matic revealed the content of that speech to Sky Sports.
“He said that I have to do my job and Pogba needs to do his job like everyone in the team. I am happy that everyone gave his best and everyone played well tonight, thatโs why we won 4-0 against a very good team in our first game,” Matic said (transcript Daily Mirror)
“We have to continue to work like this, to play like this and we will see. It is a long season.”
Yes, it is only one fixture, and you have 37 more to go, and anything can happen. However, Matic and company could have not achieved a better result in the league curtain raiser.
