The rebuild of Manchester United could definitely take some time, so get ready and dig your heels in for that. The upshot is that we’ll have a summer transfer window filled with many comings and goings.
And with Manchester United linked to approximately 97,324 players already, the time is right for some Red Devils transfer talk. In this edition, we’ll cover two defenders and one attacker. As you may have heard, United need a lot of help in the back line. The first edition of MUFC transfer talk can be found at this link.
Dutch defender and United transfer target Matthijs de Ligt discussed his future with the press, and mentioned two potential destinations- England and Spain.
“Where do I see myself? Well, obviously the Premier League is a big competition — Spain also — but you have other competitions,” De Ligt said to the Associated Press.
“It’s not [just] about those two. I still don’t know anything about where my future is, so I see how it goes.”
The Ajax star has helped lead his club to the Netherlands league title and cup double, as well as a UEFA Champions League semi-finals appearance. According to ESPN, “United have offered De Ligt a deal worth £250,000-a-week to move to Old Trafford — more than the player will receive at Barcelona.”
However, the ESPN FC article indicates that he will go to Barca, not United.
Elsewhere, United are reportedly after a Benfica duo- central defender Ruben Dias and striker Joao Felix. We start with Dias, who would obviously satisfy United’s most problem of all problem areas.
According to Portugese outlet A Bola, his agent Jorge Mendes has gotten him a new deal that will see his release clause increase from the current 60 million euros up to €100m, meaning that United’s acquisition just went from very difficult to just about completely off the table.
Turning to his teammate, the club has said that no offers have come in for Felix (a well documented and long time United transfer target), at this time.
“No offer has arrived,” Benfica executive Domingo Soares told Portuguese television channel TVI24. “There is talk and rumors. It’s true that top European clubs have expectations, but no proposal has arrived to us.”
