Chelsea and Manchester United have a long history of competing with each other for elite players in the transfer market. They’re two of the biggest, richest and most well known clubs in not just England, but the entire world. Naturally, a rivalry has developed between the two giant clubs as each strives to beef up their roster every transfer window with the best players available.
This summer has been no different, as the transfer news, rumors and gossip have linked both United and Chelsea to a trio of players. Here’s a collection of headlines and updates from across the internet on that trio of players- Cristiano Ronaldo, Alvaro Morata and Radja Nainggolan.
-It’s well known that Ronaldo wants out of Real Madrid, and United are one of the few destinations with the money and power to sign him. Paris Saint-Germain are in that group as well. Chelsea is another club in such rarified air and The Sun writes that the Blues are in the CR7 derby.
The London publication writes that Chelsea
“have sensationally entered the race to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, in the hope it helps keep Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge.”
-Elsewhere Metro link an Italian outlet with a scoop on the two clubs (who are joined by a Serie A side) in the race to acquire Nainggolan, the publication states that:
“Calciomercato claim Manchester United, Chelsea and Inter Milan are eagerly awaiting Roma’s final decision as they consider making offers for the Belgium international.”
Finally, we go back to Real Madrid for the narrative concerning Chelsea’s bid to so-called “hijack” Alvaro Morata’s move to United. There had been reports that Morata to United was agreed up on in principle, and the player himself dropped major hints on social media that he was leaving Los Blancos.
Not so fast, the Manchester Evening News reports, citing the Daily Mirror.
Recent reports stated that terms between the Real Madrid forward and United had been agreed with Morata agreeing to join Jose Mourinho’s side this summer.
However, Madrid and United are yet to agree a fee for the Spanish international.
Now The Mirror claims that Chelsea’s owner Roman Abramovich has sanctioned a £70 million bid to snatch Morata away from United.
