It’s Championship Sunday, and the Manchester United game is on….SyFy channel.
Well, it’s deserved. Man United nothing has to play for. It’s been that kind of season, and nothing is on the line in this one. So Manchester United, the club which is the biggest draw in the Premier League, in the entire sporting world for that matter, is demoted to a channel that is most known for Sharknado. I know this sounds cynical or condescending, but you got to remember that Sharknado talk dominated Twitter for like four days straight. Sharknado was a cultural phenomenon. Of sorts.
In a way, the Tara Reid vehicle helped put SyFy on the map, so to speak.
SHARKNADO! Enough said!
Essentially, LFC had the title chances right in their grasp, especially with the HUGE win at Anfield on April 13th, but their chances are pretty much nil now.The Reds had a Chicago Cubs like collapse.
NBC hosts coverage of first-place Manchester City v. West Ham, with a City win crowning them Premier League champions for the second time in three seasons. So on Championship Sunday they get the big stage, the headline game on the flagship network.
Second-place Liverpool face Newcastle Sunday on NBCSN, needing a Manchester City loss and a victory of their own to win their first-ever Premier League title. So they’re on the #2 network in the undercard bout. Liverpool’s Luis Suárez also can break the 38-match season Premier League scoring record with one goal, surpassing the record of 31 goals that he currently shares with Cristiano Ronaldo (2007-08) and Alan Shearer (1995–96).
The Man United game has storylines too. As they bid goodbye to their Captain, the Serbinator. And most likely, Ryan Giggs as well.
