Last week Twitter released a feature that allows you to look up the first ever tweet ever posted by any account in the world. Looking and Manchester United’s official account’s first tweet…well it’s ironic, and a little depressing. It was all about the excitement and optimism for the new era as the regime changed from Sir Alex Ferguson to David Moyes.
Man United’s account has 2.15 million followers, and their first ever tweet reminds me of my own.
Mine was getting about getting excited for an upcoming Chicago 2016 Summer Olympics initiative! LOL! Hey, the Chicago 2016 committee picked me to be their sports blogger. I quit a long time before the bid failed. So it was bad times all around. It also reminds me of the Portland Trail Blazers of the NBA first tweeted. Tragically comic. (Find yours here) Anyways, here’s what Man United produced.
“New era, same spirit. The season starts here. Let’s do this. #mufc”

United are all but guaranteed of finishing with their worst record in the Premier League era. They’re also a lock to finish with the worst record for a defending champion since 1995.
