If there are two teams that are in dire need for defenders, it’s Manchester United and Arsenal. Both are enduring an injury crisis in the back line right now. Which is why this headline from The Metro really resonates:
Manchester United are keen on a move for Juventus and Italy defender Angelo Ogbonna, with Arsenal also monitoring the situation. It’s conventional wisdom that Kevin Strootman is the the number target for Man United in January, but given that he’s a midfielder and not a defender that priority has probably changed.
So who is Angelo Ogbonna? He’s one of the better centre backs in Serie A and a prominent member of the Italian national team. A strong and powerful defender, he is primarily known for his outstanding physical attributes. Ogbonna is also capable of playing as a left-back on occasion, due to his pace, technique, ball skills, vision, and distribution with his left foot.
