Ahead of today’s match against Sunderland, Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal was asked about his future at the club and the pressure on both himself and the entire team this season.
Here’s the video below:
Most importantly, Van Gaal was asked about why the board hasn’t denied the stories indicating his sacking his imminent. LVG said he really believes
1.) all the stories about his being replaced are invented and
2.) he doesn’t agree with the idea that Ed Woodward, or anyone else in a leadership position at Old Trafford needs to give him a public vote of confidence.
“I have said many, many times that a lot of the media is inventing stories and you don’t have to answer invented stories, I agree with this policy of the club,” the Dutchman said.
Asked directly if he believes stories have been invented, Van Gaal replied: “Yes.”
It’s really become a long dragged out situation, and we’ve all grown pretty weary of the narrative at this point. One reporter asked him if he thinks he’ll be dismissed should the Red Devils miss out on top four.
“It is not a question of me, it is a question of the board and you have to put it to them,” he responded. “I have a contract for three years.”
LVG also admitted that he would feel disappointed if the club didn’t inform him prior to having negotiations with potential replacements.
“Then I shall be disappointed,” the Iron Tulip said.
“Because that is the consequence of what I have said. In a football world that is possible, I know, but I do not think that. I have a relationship with Ed and the Glazers, they [would] tell me I think.”
The Sun have a story today claiming that Louis van Gaal thinks he will keep his job if he can guide the club to a top-four finish. They have another story indicating that Van Gaal has pleaded with Manchester United to come clean on whether they have had discussions with Jose Mourinho or not.
The Dutchman has also admitted some players have become fed up with him at times, the London publication claims.
