Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho met the media a few hours ago to preview Sunday’s home match versus Chelsea. We have video of the entire media session for you here below via YouTube.
There were a whole host of topics covered in this news conference, including: his reputation at his former club, the magnitude of the match, the recent war of words with Antonio Conte, the status of Paul Pogba, the team injury/fitness update and much much more.
Here’s the whole session, which runs about nine and a half minutes:
Mourinho also added that his players must all earn his trust if they want to see/keep playing time, and he used the example of Scott McTominay starting over Paul Pogba at Sevilla.
“I think I don’t give trust for free,” Mourinho said.
“I think is the other way round. I don’t think it’s about the manager to trust the player. [It] is the player to make the manager trust him. [It] is as simple as that.”
“Sometimes it looks like we have to give everything to the players and they give nothing back to us. I don’t think that way.”
“The confidence and trust I show towards Scott, he earned it since day one, since he come to the first team training sessions. Of course, he will have bad matches and make mistakes and be on the bench and not be selected, but I know when I want him to play, I know the kind of mentality.”
Odds: Chelsea 5/2, Draw 23/10, United 13/10
