Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho gave his weekly news conference today, and in it he revealed a lot of information about the contract situations on his roster. He said that all but two players, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Michael Carrick, are contracted until the end of next season, 2018-19.
Ibrahimovic, Carrick and also Marouane Fellaini are on one year deals, but Old Trafford is reportedly confident and interested in negotiating a new deal with the latter.
“When the club has a one-year option it means they have one more year of contract so nobody is in the last year. The only player, two players are Zlatan and Carrick,” Mourinho said.
“Two players at the end of the season who are going to sit, analyze what they did and what they want to do. All the other players are under the club control until end of the 2018-19 season. We are speaking about June 2019. No player ends his contract.”
Juan Mata and Ander Herrera will be out of contract next summer, but United hold a club option to extend the deal of both Spanish midfielders an additional year.
In other words, United have their core locked up long term, and right now it looks like they won’t have much trouble keeping their nucleus together down the line.
