Juventus Goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, owner of the richest contract for a keeper in football history, told BT Sport that he had an opportunity to join the Premier League giant clubs. Both Arsenal and Manchester United were keen on signing him.
The Italian legend, who’s had a very storied career with Juve said:
“I remember when I was 20 years old in 1998, I had dinner once with Arsene Wenger. And Manchester United definitely had their eyes on me for a long time with Alex Ferguson.”
It’s food for thought, how much stronger could the Premier League be right now if arguably the greatest football in Italian history had moved to Great Britain? Now with UEFA Champions League action this week, we’ll see who’s the best in Europe, and around the world.
Manchester City came closer than any other Premier League side to signing Gianluigi Buffon despite previous interest from Arsenal and Manchester United, the Juventus goalkeeper has said.
