Time for your daily David de Gea update. It’s a a never ending soap opera like Arturo Vidal was last summer. Will he stay at Manchester United, or move to Real Madrid? Well, for now he’s staying, as he will start on Saturday versus Barcelona. Here’s the latest headlines on the situation.
Manchester United Manager Louis van Gaal confirmed that both David de Gea and Anders Lindegaard missed the club’s two preseason games due to minor injuries. So that’s why we saw Sam Johnstone for all 90 minutes in San Jose versus the Earthquakes. However, De Gea will start the next exhibition friendly; today versus Barca in Santa Clara, California.
That has been confirmed now by Van Gaal.
I have good hope he can play against Barcelona,” said Van Gaal of De Gea. “But he was injured as well as Anders Lindegaard, so I said ‘go stand in the goal so we have a point of direction for my attackers, but don’t do anything to risk your injury’.
“That is because we have to build him up. I think he can play [against Barcelona] and I hope he can play.”
Although he didn’t play versus the Earthquakes, De Gea did warm up before the game.
