Wednesday saw the four Premier League teams who qualified for UEFA Champions League this season release their respective rosters for the competition. More specifically, each side selects an A list and a B list, the latter of which consists of players which fall into certain UEFA parameters of categorization.
We’ll expound on that later.

You’ll notice one major name missing- Marcus Rashford and that’s because he is on United’s B list of eligible players, which has not been released yet. According to UEFA (h/t Manchester Evening News):
“A player may be registered on List B if he is born on, or after, 1 January 1997 and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday (players aged 16 may be submitted if they have been registered with the club for the previous two years).”
“Clubs are entitled to register an unlimited number of players on List B during the season, but the list must be submitted by no later than 24:00 CET the day before a match.”
Since Rashford was born after New Year’s Day 1997 he is on United’s U21 list, instead of the A list squad. The same goes for Diogo Dalot, the summer addition from FC Porto who has yet to debut. It’s not a sign of a demotion, even though it may sound like one. It’s just a matter of birthdate.
