It’s the last international break of the season, and thus, Manchester United are currently off until March 30. We don’t have a game to talk about for awhile, but there are plenty of transfer rumors to discuss. The summer transfer window doesn’t open for awhile yet, but the futures of many key United players remains up in the air.
Let’s take a spin through the inter webs and see what’s buzzing in Manchester United cyberspace right now.
Midfielder Ander Herrera, who is out of contract in June has been heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain recently.
The 29-year-old has now spoken up about both this transfer narrative and his contract situation, telling El Periodico, a Barcelona daily newspaper, he is not at all surprised by the speculation swirling about him.
“It is logical when you have three months of contract and there are stop selections,” the 2016-17 United Player of the Year said.
“I already knew something was going to come out. I take it as normal, I focus on playing football in the month-and-a-half that remains.”
“The rest is left to my agent, both the possible renewal with United and if you talk to another club for my departure.”
Next we turn to one of the bigger busts in recent Manchester United transfer window history, winger Memphis Depay. Former Arsenal star Robert Pires has hinted that the young Dutchman could now actually return to United after a spell in France that has seen him find his form again.
Depay is playing well with Lyon in Ligue 1, but he’s openly spoke about leaving, and reportedly had a falling out with one of the club’s higher-ups.
According toย Team Talk, Pires said: โI think Depay wants to come back to the Premier League and he feels he has unfinished business in England.
โIt didnโt work out for him at Manchester United and Depay is a very proud player. He perhaps feels he wasnโt given a chance to perform and earn the right to stay longer considering he was so young and showed glimpses of undoubted potential.”
โDepay might want to return to Manchester United or he might be motivated to prove them wrong by performing for one of their rivals in the Premier League.โ
According to The People’s Person, Depay, who was signed by Louis van Gaal, “left United during Jose Mourinhoโs reign though a buy-back clause is said to have been included in his sale.”
Finally, Barcelona man and United transfer target Samuel Umtiti says he’s not going anywhere. This is via B/R: “The centre-back is currently away with France on international duty and was asked byย Telefootย (h/tย Sport) if he would be at Barcelona next term, to which he replied: “Yes.”
