Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, with Egyptian national team coach Hector Cuper perhaps providing the main fodder for this narrative. Cuper suggested that a move to the Bernabeu would suit the high flying goal scorer, who is right up there with Tottenham Hotspur striker in the race for the Golden Boot award.
Salah, in an interview with Spanish publication Marca, played down the Real Madrid transfer talk, and would not comment on Cuper’s remarks.
“I don’t have much to say about that. If I must say anything, it is that I am happy at Liverpool,” said the Egyptian international nicknamed The Pharoah.
“For the moment I am here. I want to focus on my team, and to end the season very well. I love the Premier League, the football here.”
Salah moved over from AS Roma last summer, and his first year at Anfield this season has been more successful than even the most optimistic could have expected. He has 28 goals across 34 competitions for the Reds, and he also became the fastest to 20 goals scored in Liverpool history.
“Last year I did well at Roma but this year I am scoring more goals,” Mohamed Salah continued.
“I want to help the team to win trophies or be in a good position in the league, in my head I’m trying to do that. I [also] want to help my national team to get out of their group at the World Cup. These are my objectives for now, then we will see.”
Liverpool has sold both Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in recent years, with the latter now saying today he left Anfield because he wanted to win major trophies. Mo Salah discussed just how much he misses his friend Coutinho, and he wishes his buddy nothing but the best at the Catalan club.
“I miss him — he was my friend, a very nice kid. I wish him all the best at Barcelona as he is an incredible player, with a lot of quality. He is a relaxed person. I am very proud of having played alongside him,” Salah continued.
